Eric Noel
I was fortunate to be born into the arts. My earliest memories are of my father sketching portraits of my sisters and me. He had a painting studio and a circle of artist friends. As a child, my family would frequent the galleries and art museums around Los Angeles. I attended private art classes and won several art competitions. Throughout school I was encouraged to excel in drawing, painting, and sculpture. I attended classes at the Art Center during high school and won a scholarship to the California College of Arts and Crafts in my senior year.
During this period I developed a strong interest in glass that has lasted for thirty years. As a self-taught lamp worker I blew glass successfully for several years.
Out of college I gravitated toward set design and construction, working with the Berkeley Stage Company. I moved into television as a scenic artist and designer, winning an Emmy for set design at KRON-TV.
I have worked at KRON-TV for the past twenty-five years, participating in many wonderful and exciting things. However, as my position became more technical, I felt a creative void. For the past few years I have again pursued glassblowing on a regular basis.
Applying my previous art background, I have worked hard to develop a unique character to my glass that is reminiscent of such movements as Art Nouveau, Arts and Crafts, and Memphis. My glass pieces are classic, yet distinctive in my own style. I hope you enjoy them as much as I have enjoyed creating them.
